10 Things New Moms Wish You Knew
1. “I need rest more than I need visitors.”
Please don’t take it personally if I’m not up for company—I’m healing, learning, and running on empty.
2. “Please don’t come empty-handed.”
A meal, a coffee, folding some laundry—these are the love languages of postpartum.
3. “My parenting choices aren’t up for debate.”
I appreciate your experience, but what worked then might not be what works now.
4. “Bonding with my baby takes time.”
Not every mom feels that magical connection right away. Please don’t rush me.
5. “I need support, not judgment.”
I’m doing my best. What I need most is your presence, not your opinions.
6. “Please ask before holding the baby.”
There’s a rhythm I’m still figuring out—and I might just need to hold them a little longer myself.
7. “My body is healing—please don’t comment on it.”
Even compliments can feel heavy. Let my body just be.
8. “I’m still learning, too.”
I don’t have it all figured out. I need encouragement, not correction.
9. “Support me in doing things my way.”
Even if it’s different from what you’d do, trust that I know what’s best for us.
10. “Check in on me—not just the baby.”
Ask how I’m doing. See me. Motherhood can feel invisible.
Let’s change how we show up for new moms.
