Do You Fear How Your Body Will Change In Pregnancy/Postpartum?

In my private psychotherapy practice, I specifically work with people who are:

  • Pregnant

  • In their postpartum

  • Parents

  • Planning for parenthood and want to prioritize healing before becoming pregnant

I have worked with people who were on their recovery journey from an eating disorder, and feared how their bodies would change in pregnancy and postpartum. 

Many of them wanted to further heal their relationship with food and body in order to help prevent a relapse.

I have worked with people who controlled their food and size of their body for so much of their lives, and felt guilt when it was hard to let go of those behaviors during pregnancy. 

Many of them feared they were hurting their babies for not eating ‘perfectly’, and felt selfish in moments where they ‘chose’ their eating disorder.

I have worked with people who saw pregnancy as freeing - where they allowed themselves to truly nourish their bodies, eat what sounded good (not always what they thought they ‘should’ eat), and gave themselves time to rest. 

Many of them then panicked in their postpartum, fearing how they would get their body ‘back’. 

I have also worked with people who felt scared to move forward from their eating disorders, AND who have gone on to feel able to model healthy relationships with food, body, and movement for their children. 

Many of them have had ups and downs on their recovery journey, and continue to persevere on finding a life of food freedom, body acceptance, and joyful movement.
